Valencia have now won six of their last eight matches after hitting back from going a goal down early on to defeat Atlético Madrid 2-1 at the Vicente Calderón.
José Antonio Reyes put Atlético ahead after just three minutes but Valencia drew level just before the break through veteran winger Joaquín.
Diego Forlán then missed a penalty for Atlético at the start of the second half before Joaquín scored the winner with a hard right-footed blast from the edge of the area four minutes from time.
The hosts finished the match with ten men after Diego Godín was shown a red card for his challenge on Joaquín in the 90th minute.
