Wayne Rooney returned to action in Manchester United's 2-0 victory over nine-man Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford.
United went ahead on the stroke of half-time when Patrice Evra headed in a Park Ji-Sung cross past goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi for his first goal in three and a half years.
Any hopes Wigan had of finding a way back in to the match were crushed when captain Antolín Alcaraz and Hugo Rodallega in the space of three minutes in the second half.
With Wigan firmly on the back foot, further United goals were inevitable and it was substitute Javier Hernández who made it 2-0 with a diving header in the 77th minute.
