Premier League: Bolton 5-1 Newcastle
Table of Contents
Bolton Wanderers moved into the top four with a 5-1 hammering of Newcastle United at the Reebok Stadium.
Kevin Davies opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 18th minute after ex-Bolton player Kevin Nolan was penalised for handball and Lee Chung-Yong doubled the lead on 39 minutes after Newcastle defense failed to clear a Matt Taylor shot that had hit the woodwork.
In-form Bolton striker Johan Elmander made it three in the 50th minute minute before Andy Carroll reduced the arrears two minutes later.
But any hopes of a Newcastle comeback were quashed when Elmander grabbed his second of the game in the 72nd minute before Fabricio Coloccini's vicious elbow on the Swede four minutes later earned a red card.
Davies completed the rout with a second spot-kick in injury-time, although replays showed the unlucky José Enrique had got the ball.
