Liverpool remain in the relegation zone after going down 2-0 to local rivals Everton at Goodison Park in a typically competitive Merseyside derby.
Everton dominated from the start and were rewarded in the 34th minute when Tim Cahill scored following a fine run and cross by Seamus Coleman.
The Reds fell further behind five minutes after the break when Sotiris Kyrgiakos' headed clearance only reached the edge of the penalty area where Mikel Arteta was lurking to unleash a fierce volley past Pepe Reina.
