Premier League: Wigan 0-6 Chelsea
Table of Contents
Reigning champions Chelsea continued their free-scoring start to the new season as they hammered Wigan Athletic 6-0 at the DW Stadium.
Florent Malouda opened the scoring in the 34th minute as the Frenchman reacted the quickest after Chris Kirkland had parried Frank Lampard's shot.
After the break, Nicolas Anelka's clinical finish and a close-range header by the 52nd minute put the game beyond reach for the home side.
Didier Drogba set up substitute Salomon Kalou to slot home on 78 minutes and turned provided again in stoppage time, with the Ivory Coast forward heading in a second goal after Kirkland flapped at the incoming cross.
The win was wrapped up by Yossi Benayoun with pretty much the last kick of the game to leave Chelsea with a deadly dozen goals in just 180 minutes of Premier League football this season.
