A late leveller from centre-back Liam Ridgewell earned Birmingham City a deserved 2-2 draw against 10-man Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Darren Bent fired the home side into an early lead from the penalty spot before the Black Cats were reduced to 10 men when captain Lee Cattermole was dismissed for a second bookable offence just before half-time.
But in the 56th minute, Sunderland went two up thanks to a comical own goal from Stephen Carr, who looped a header over Ben Foster from the edge of his own box under pressure from Fraizer Campbell.
Birmingham, though, finally made their numerical superiority count when Scott Dann headed home Sebastian Larsson's cross on 77 minutes.
And the comeback was completed with two minutes remaining as Ridgewell bundled home the equaliser during a frantic scramble for the ball.
