Fernando Torres is the highest-selling Premier League shirt
Table of Contents
Fernando Torres' surname proved most popular name to feature on replica Premier League shirts sold across the world last season.
It is the second successive season the Spaniard has been top, while Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard was second in the top 10 list compiled by Sporting iD, who specialise in the business of putting celebrated surnames on shirts.
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was third, while Arsenal duo Cesc Fàbregas and Andrei Asharvin were fourth and fifth, followed by Chelsea pair Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.
Another United striker Michael Owen featured for the first time alongside Drogba, while Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher and Manchester City forward Carlos Tévez wrapped up the top 10.
Cristiano Ronaldo was in second place a year ago, while at United, but his name does not appear on the list this year - a surprise for Real Madrid, who would have expected his name on the shirt of one of the biggest clubs in the world to shift plenty of units.
Shirt sales are big business. When David Beckham departed United for Real in 2003, he sold over one million shirts which accounted for over 50 percent of the club's sales.
