Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League on away goals despite beating Bayern Munich 3-2 at Old Trafford in the second leg of their quarter-final tie.
The Red Devils looked to be on course for the semi-finals as they roared into a 3-0 lead thanks to Darron Gibson's opener and a superb brace from Nani, only for Ivica Olić to change the complexion of the tie just before the interval with a goal out of nothing.
Bayern's cause was helped further when Rafael, who had been booked in the first half for a petulant kick on Mark van Bommel, was dismissed by referee Nicola Rizzoli on the 50th minute after pulling back Franck Ribéry.
Arjen Robben then struck a stunning, and decisive, goal for Bayern to ensure the Bundesliga side went through on away goals after a 4-4 aggregate scoreline.
