Tottenham Hotspur tightened their grip on fourth place in the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over 10-man Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
Substitute Eiður Guðjohnsen broke the deadlock just 18 seconds after the break before the home side then had Dean Whitehead sent off for a second bookable offence.
But the Potters were gifted an equaliser in the 64th minute as Benoît Assou-Ekotto hauled down Dave Kitson to concede a penalty and ex-Spurs winger Matt Etherington stepped up to send Heurelho Gomes the wrong way.
Despite Stoke's best efforts, Spurs' extra man advantage proved vital as Niko Kranjčar rifled home a winner with 13 minutes remaining to take all three points back to North London.
