Everton recorded their seventh straight home victory by defeating Bolton Wanderers 2-0 at Goodison Park.
The visitors were holding their own when last man Grétar Steinsson was shown a straight red card for bringing down Yakubu as the Nigerian raced clear from a Steven Pienaar pass.
From the resulting free kick, Mikel Arteta gave Jussi Jääskeläinen no chance as he curled the ball over the wall and into the corner of the net.
And the result was put beyond all doubt in the last minute when substitute Leon Osman weaved his way into the area and pulled the ball back to present Pienaar with a simple finish.
