Manchester United closed the gap on leaders Chelsea to just a point after a 1-1 draw away at Aston Villa.
The hosts went ahead in the 19th minute when Carlos Cuellar produced a finely judged header to guide the ball over keeper Edwin van der Sar and into the back of the net.
The lead only lasted four minutes, however, as Ryan Giggs volleyed Nani's ball across goal where James Collins was helpless to prevent the ball going in off his leg.
Moments later and man-of-the-moment Nani was again involved in the action - but this time not how he would have envisaged as he was handed a straight red for a lunge on Stiliyan Petrov.
