Wayne Rooney: Everton still a big part of my life
Table of Contents
Wayne Rooney has admitted that he has never lost his love for former club Everton, despite leaving them for Manchester United in 2004.
The 24-year-old swapped Goodison Park for Old Trafford for £25.6 million six years ago - at the time it was the highest fee ever paid for a player under 20.
Rooney has endured abuse from Everton supporters since the transfer – especially when he taunted his old club by kissing the United badge during one match back at Goodison Park in 2008.
Despite all the aggro, Rooney reveals that Everton are still the team closest to his heart.
He told evertonTV: "I love Everton, I grew up supporting Everton and want them to win.
"In footballing terms I felt I had to move on but I still want Everton to win and that is never going to change.
"All my family are Everton fans, my son has his Everton kit now! Everton is still a big part of my life."
