Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano has ruled out a bid for Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney, despite confirming his admiration for the player.

The England striker has reportedly emerged as a summer target for the Spanish giants, who are ready to test United's resolve over their prized asset.

Rooney has been credited with single-handedly maintaining United's title charge following last summer's world-record sale of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 24-year-old has been in blistering form for the Red Devils this season, having netted 19 times for the Red Devils which includes his recent four-goal haul against Hull City.

"He is extraordinary, very, very good," Valdano told Radio COPE.

"Rooney is English, we all know they find it difficult to adapt to another type of competition other than the Premier League.

"He is a very interesting player but we have not ever been interested."
