David Beckham, who will return to Old Trafford with AC Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League in March, admits he envies Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs.

The pair came through the United Academy together and became key members of the side which dominated the 1990s.

But while Beckham's path took him to Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, Giggs has spent his whole career at the Red Devils.

With 11 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies already forming part of a staggering collection of silverwares, Giggs has secured a place in the history books during a career in which he has amassed over 820 appearances for his only professional club.

"It takes a special person and a player to stay at a club for so many years," Beckham told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek.

"Ryan's been there for so many years now and he'll be part of Manchester United for life - he's a Manchester boy and it runs through his blood.

"I'm so honoured to have played with Ryan through the years I did and to know him as a person and a player.

"He deserves all the success he's had this year and in the other years.

"I'd have loved to have stayed at Manchester United for my whole career and never gone anywhere else but it just wasn't meant to be."
