Adrian Mutu says no to Manchester City

Romania and Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has rejected reports suggesting he is on the verge of joining Manchester City.

The former Chelsea hitman has been linked with a return to the Premier League in recent weeks with his agent, Giovanni Becali, claimed on Wednesday that City boss Roberto Mancini "liked his client".

However, the 30-year-old doesn't feel such a move will happen, as he distances himself from the speculation.

"Manchester City? We will see, but I wouldn't believe in that too much," Mutu told prosport.ro.

"At the moment I just want to have a successful second half of the season with Fiorentina."

While the 31-year-old dismissed a move to Eastlands as unlikely, he didn't exactly discourage talk of a transfer to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

He added: "Would I ever join up with Mircea Lucescu at Shakhtar? Yes, why not. I have always respected Mircea Lucescu and appreciated what he has done for my career.

"However, I have promised that I will return to Dinamo Bucarest at the end of my career and I intend to keep that promise."
