Roberto Mancini: No Liverpool approach

New Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has denied reports that Liverpool were interested in bringing in him as a replacement for Rafa Benítez.
City chief executive Garry Cook claimed that the Merseyside club would have spoken to Mancini about replacing under-fire Spaniard when Reds owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks had approached Jürgen Klinsmann in late 2007 about the possibility of assuming control of the Anfield dugout.
But Mancini - appointed in controversial circumstances following the sacking of Mark Hughes on Saturday - has dismissed the reports, claiming that he was never approached to take up the mantle as Kop boss.
He told Sky Sports News: "No, never. Liverpool have a good manager. Rafa is a good manager. Absolutely not."
