Serbia qualified for the 2010 World Cup for the first time under their own name with a 5-0 thrashing of Romania in Belgrade.

The hosts took the lead after 37 minutes when towering forward Nikola Žigić headed in a curving corner by Miloš Krasić inside the far post.

Marko Pantelić added a second five minutes after the restart and Zdravko Kuzmanović's cannonball under the bar in the 78th minute gave Serbia a three-goal lead before Romania had defender Cristian Chivu sent off in the 84th.

There was still time for Serbia to score again as Milan Jovanović struck on 86 minutes and then again in stoppage time to complete the rout.
