Manchester United ended Tottenham Hotspur's winning start to the season with a 3-1 victory in a pulsating encounter at White Hart Lane.
Jermain Defoe gave Spurs, who had won their previous four matches, a dream start by scoring after just 49 seconds with an astonishing scissor-kick.
But the Red Devils showed their class by shrugging off the early setback and dominating the rest of the first half, with Ryan Giggs curling home a delightful free-kick in the 25th minute to haul United back into the game.
Four minutes before the break Anderson fired United in front with his first goal for the club before Paul Scholes was dismissed for a second bookable offence on 59 minutes.
The ten men of United contained Tottenham surprisingly comfortably and Wayne Rooney then fired in a third 12 minutes from time to seal an impressive victory.
