World Cup referee Massimo Busacca has been been given a three-match ban by the Swiss Football Association for raising his middle finger at supporters.
Busacca asked for a warning message to be relayed over the stadium public address system, prompting visiting fans to chant abuse at him.
"I let myself be provoked by verbal abuse from supporters," said Busacca to Sky Sport 24.
"Unfortunately, I lost my cool with an unsporting gesture. I was wrong and I will pay the price."
Nobody had seen the obscene gesture until the SonntagsBlick newspaper published a photo of Busacca waving his middle finger at crowds.
