Italy moved closer towards automatic qualification for the 2010 World Cup finals thanks to a 2-0 home win over Bulgaria.
Fabio Grosso gave the host the lead in the 11th minute when played a one-two with Andrea Pirlo before firing a left-footed volley from 12 yards past Dimitar Ivankov.
Italy continued to surge forward and their efforts were rewarded five minutes before the break when Vincenzo Iaquinta combined with Alberto Gilardino and then lashed a diagonal shot past Ivankov.
