Brazil remain in top spot of the South American standings with a 4-2 win over Chile in a rainsoaked Santiago de Bahía.

Nilmar, replacing Robinho, put Brazil ahead after outstretching his legs by the far post and just barely reaching a long free-kick from Daniel Alves.

Júlio Baptista made it 2-0 with five minutes remaining in the half, but Humberto Suazo scored from the spot to give Chile hope moments later.

Brazil were reduced to ten men shortly after the interval after Felipe Melo was given his marching orders following a nasty lunge on Alexis Sánchez.

Chile seized the initiative against the ten men of Brazil and Suazo struck again after 52 minutes, equalizing with a firm let-footer from near the penalty spot after a cross by Matías Fernández.

But the hosts soon turned the tie around with two quickfire goals from Nilmar in the 75th and 76th minute.

Moments later Sánchez saw red for a second bookable offence to make the numbers even once again.
