Basel got their Europa League campaign off to the best possible start with a convincing 2-0 victory over AS Roma.
Carlitos opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he blasted into the corner from 25 yards following a mix-up between Philippe Mexès and Daniele De Rossi.
The home side doubled the lead three minutes from time as substitute Federico Almerares broke on the counter from a Roma move, dribbled round a stranded Júlio Sérgio and placed into the empty net.
