Chelsea fought back from the shock of going a goal down to defeat Sunderland 3-1 at the Stadium of Light.
It had all begun so brightly for the Black Cats as they took an 18th-minute lead through Darren Bent's second in two games for his new club.
Chelsea equalised seven minutes after the break when Branislav Ivanović climbed to help on Frank Lampard's corner and Michael Ballack steered a left-foot volley at the far post.
The visitors took the lead only nine minutes later as Lampard blasted a spot-kick after George McCartney sent Didier Drogba tumbling in the box.
And Deco added the finishing flourish with a sublime strike from the edge of the box 20 minutes from time to put the seal on the Blues' night.
