Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of defender Sébastien Bassong from Newcastle United for a fee in the region of £8 million.
Bassong has passed a medical and agreed personal terms to become Harry Redknapp's fourth signing of the summer.
The 23-year-old, who only joined Newcastle last summer, was one of Toon's best performers last season despite their relegation from the Premier League.
A number of Premier League clubs had been linked with the centre-back, but it is Tottenham who have won the race for his signature.
"Playing for Newcastle was a real honour in front of the supporters at St James' Park," Bassong told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
"But I have always said that I wanted to play in the Premier League and that wasn't possible with Newcastle.
"It was not good for my career to be at a Championship club. I want to play in future World Cups and African Cup of Nations competitions with Cameroon.
"That is made more difficult if you are not playing at the higher level."
