Veteran defender Míchel Salgado has been released by mutual consent by Real Madrid despite having one year remaining on his current deal.
The Spanish giants said on their website on Tuesday they have reached an agreement with the 33-year-old to end that agreement prematurely.
"Real Madrid and Miguel Ángel Salgado (Michel Salgado) have agreed to the player's release from the club," said a statement on the club's official website.
"Real Madrid would like to thank the until-now captain for his commitment and behavior during ten consecutive years of exemplary service to the club."
The 33-year-old, who joined Los Blancos in 1999 from Celta Vigo for €11 million, enjoyed a great deal of success during his decade with Real, winning four La Liga titles and twice lifting the Champions League among other trophies.
