Liverpool star Fernando Torres has put pen to paper on a new and improved contract at Anfield, according to the club's official website.

The Spanish striker had agreed to the new deal in May but departed for the Confederations Cup in South Africa without having signed it.

Torres had already committed himself to the Kop for the next four seasons after signing a six-year deal in 2007, but the new agreement improves his salary and includes an option to extend his stay for another year.

The 25-year-old is understood to have seen his wages rise from £70,000 a week to £110,000 under the new agreement.
