Robbie Blake’s stunning first-half volley sent defending champions Manchester United crashing to a shock 1-0 defeat at promoted Burnley.
The Clarets took the shock lead after 19 minutes when Blake seized on a half cleared cross and rifled home a scorching volley that whistled past Ben Foster's outstretched hand and into the top corner.
United had a glorious opportunity to equalise when Patrice Evra was fouled by Blake as he nicked the ball towards Burnley's goal two minutes before half time.
However, Clarets goalkeeper Brian Jensen managed to turn away Michael Carrick's spot-kick and make sure Blake's stunner would be the only goal of the night.
