Steven Gerrard scored a thumping winner as Liverpool twice came from behind to beat ten-man Bolton Wanderers 3-2 at the Reebok Stadium.
The home side took a surprising lead after 35 minutes through Kevin Davies, but a Glen Johnson drive saw Liverpool level at the break.
Bolton restores the lead two minutes after the break as Davies' flick header from a set-piece fell invitingly for Tamir Cohen to ram home.
But the Trotters' lead only lasted nine minutes when first midfielder Sean Davis was dismissed in the 54th minute for a second bookable offence and then Fernando Torres scored his third of the campaign two minutes later.
And with seven minutes remaining, Gerrard struck the winner as he thumped the ball past Jussi Jääskeläinen from 20 yards to hand Liverpool a much-needed victory.
