In one of the game’s most staggering moves of recent times, former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has been appointed director of football at League Two side Notts County.
The 61-year-old has accepted a five-year deal and will be assisted by long-standing assistant Tord Grip, who will take up the position of general advisor at the club.
Eriksson, who was sacked as coach of Mexico three months ago, will also be participating as a shareholder in the club.
The Swede told the club's official website: "I am particularly attracted to this role and the unique opportunity to help build a club over the longer-term.
"I will be responsible for all aspects of the football side of the club and in line with the aspirations of the new owners, wish to build the club at the heart of the community.
"I started my football management career at a small lower division Swedish club and we managed to get them into the top-flight.
"I can think of no better challenge than to attempt to do that again, but this time with the world's oldest football club, where we can add to a proud tradition and hopefully bring some richly deserved success.
"We hope to leave a long lasting football legacy for Notts County FC and its fans."
Eriksson, who earned £5 million a year when he was in charge of the Three Lions, is believed to pick up as much as £2 million per season at Meadow Lane as the Magpies continue on an ambitious project backed by owners Munto Finance Ltd.
Munto Finance took control last week with plans to establish the oldest league club in the world in the Championship within five years.
The bookies reacted to news of the Eriksson's appointment by making County 7-1 favourites for promotion, from 25-1 outsiders.
