Karim Benzema is set to become a Galáctico this summer after Olympique Lyon agreed to sell the striker to Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Lyon said on their official website, www.olweb.fr, that Real will pay a minimum fee of €35 million, rising to up to €41 million depending on his success at the Bernabéu.
The French hotshot had been heavily linked with Manchester United, but the big-spending Spanish giants have won the race.
He becomes Florentino Pérez's fourth signing since returning to the Real presidency a month ago, following the arrivals of Kaká, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raúl Albiol.
A statement from Los Merengues read: "Real Madrid and Lyon have reached an agreement for the transfer of Karim Benzema, which will be effective after the player's medical and the signing of the contract."
Lyon also confirmed the deal on their website, saying: "Lyon announces the agreement with Real Madrid of the transfer of international attacker Karim Benzema for a net minimum value of €35m.
"It will also be possible to add various no-claims bonuses related to athletic performances, allowing the deal to reach a maximum amount €41m."
The statement continued: "A few days ago, Karim Benzema informed president Jean Michel Aulas of his wish to join Madrid, which has always been his preference after Lyon, quicker than it was initially considered.
"The player wished to seize the opportunity that was offered to him by Real, which was to be one of the major elements of the club's new, ambitious policy built around some of the largest players in the world.
"Lyon accepted the decision of Karim Benzema and negotiated the conditions of a transfer which satisfy the various elements.
"The club wishes Karim the greatest success with Real Madrid."
