Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday that they have accepted VfB Stuttgart's offer of €20 million for out-of-favour striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
The Bundesliga club are prepared to break the club's transfer record as they look for a replacement for star striker Mario Gómez, who left at the end of last season for Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old Huntelaar moved to the Bernabéu from Ajax Amsterdam in January but appears to be surplus to requirements following the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká and Karim Benzema.
"There is an open negotiation with Stuttgart for Huntelaar, which is at an advanced stage, and we are at a point where the player needs to make a decision," Real sporting director Miguel Pardeza told Marca.
"(Real general director Jorge) Valdano wants him to be involved in the situation and to decide. The final word belongs to Huntelaar."
