Sir Alex blasts 'arrogant' Manchester City

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson feels that a poster of Carlos Tévez that has appeared in Manchester shows Manchester City’s arrogance.

A giant poster welcoming Tévez to Manchester was erected in the city centre immediately after the Argentine striker controversially quit Old Trafford for Eastlands.

The billboard stands squarely where the road from Salford meets Deansgate, one of Manchester's busiest shopping areas. It shows Tévez, his arms outstretched above the slogan: "Welcome to Manchester".

The poster emphasises the fact that United are not technically based in Manchester, but the neighbouring borough of Trafford, something City fans have pointed out regularly down the years as they laid claim to the title of Manchester's only club.

Speaking to The Guardian, Ferguson said: "The billboard is City isn't it? They are a small club with a small mentality.

"All they can talk about is Manchester United, that's all they've ever done and they can't get away from it. That's stupid.

"That arrogance will be rewarded in the right way. It is a go at us, that's the one thing it is.

"They think taking Carlos Tévez away from Manchester United is a triumph. It is poor stuff."
