Cristiano Ronaldo told his Manchester United team-mates he was leaving Old Trafford before the Champions League final with Barcelona at the end of last month.

The Premier League champions have accepted a record-breaking £80 million offer from Real Madrid for the World Player of the Year.

But United starlet Zoran Tošić has revealed the players knew what would be happening.

"I spoke with him," said Tošić in The Sun. "He told us that it's enough to be here. He'd won all the awards in England and he wanted to try something else.

"Last season he scored 42 goals and this time 25 - and they all said it's his worst season because it wasn't enough. In Madrid he will be the best again."

The 22-year-old Serbian, who joined United from Partizan Belgrade in January but has so far made only three first-term appearances, was gutted to see Ronaldo quit but hopes he can help fill the void left by the Portuguese star.

"Cristiano was the best player in the team and so someone will come in to take his place. I hope I will get the chance," he concluded.
