Man United to sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid for £80m

Just days after completing the signing of Kaká for £62 million, Real Madrid are ready to break the bank again to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernabéu.

The Manchester United winger has long been a target for the Spanish outfit, who had trailed his signature for the last three summers.

Returning Real president Florentino Pérez vowed earlier this week to do "everything possible" to take the 24-year-old to Madrid.

And the Spanish giants have now agreed an £80 million offer for the Portuguese ace with United, whose debts have spiraled to nearly £700 million, clearing the World Player of the Year to negotiate personal terms with Los Merengues.

A Red Devils statement said: "Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80 million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

"At Cristiano's request — who has again expressed his desire to leave — and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

"Matters are expected to be concluded by June 30. The club will not comment until further notice."

Real confirmed the news in a brief statement on their website: "Real Madrid confirm they have made an offer to Manchester United for the acquisition of the rights of the player Cristiano Ronaldo. The club hope to reach an agreement with the player in the next few days."

While Ronaldo's £80 million fee outstrips Kaká, he is likely to be only the second highest earner at Real behind the Brazilian.

According to The Guardian, Ronaldo, who cost the English champions £12.2 million as a 17-year-old from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, will earn a salary of around £6.8 million per season while Kaká's six year contract reported to be worth £7.6 million a year.
