Serie A round-up: Roma ruin Maldini's farewell as Juve move to second
Table of Contents
There was no happy ending for the retiring AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini as his last match at San Siro ended in a 3-2 loss to AS Roma.
John Arne Riise opened the scoring for Roma in the 36th minute when the full-back buried a left-footed free-kick into the top corner from 30 yards.
Massimo Ambrosini brought Milan level on 75 minutes as he fired home the rebound after goalkeeper Arthur failed to hold Filippo Inzaghi's shot.
Roma substitute Jérémy Menez restored Roma's lead five minutes later when he dribbled past Giuseppe Favalli to shoot low past Dida.
But a minute later Milan were level again as Ambrosini poked home Kaká's low cross
Francesco Totti then put the seal on a topsy-turvy encounter when he hammered home a free-kick five minutes from the end.
Milan became more and more desperate and with tempers running high, Ambrosini spoiled his afternoon when he was given his marching orders on 88 minutes for arguing with the referee for a penalty that hadn't been given.
