Fergie: Stay cool Roo

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Wayne Rooney that he faces the heartbreak of missing a Champions League final.

A booking for Rooney in the semi-final, second leg against Arsenal at the Emirates on Tuesday night would rule the striker out of the big game in Rome on May 27, should United complete the job.

"He knows the circumstances," Ferguson said. "I don't need to spell it out to him.

"He is a mature young man. He understands it perfectly well.

"He needs to be disciplined, but most of the time he is that way."

He added: "Obviously if a player steps out of line there are definitely no excuses.

"It is an Italian referee for this game — Roberto Rosetti.

"He understands the seriousness of a player getting a booking and missing the final because of that.

"I have noticed a trend of the referees being very professional and tolerant. They are well up to handling the situation."

Carlos Tévez and Patrice Evra are also just a booking away from a final KO.

Rooney’s United team-mate Paul Scholes, along with Roy Keane, was forced to watch from the stands as United overcame Bayern Munich in dramatic fashion in the 1999 final after they received second bookings in the semi against Juventus.
