A Glasgow Celtic fan is facing a life ban from games after he brandished the IRA banner during an Old Firm match against city rivals Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox Stadium.
Aaron Laing, 21, from Peterhead, was photographed with an Irish tricolour flag – with IRA scrawled across it in black marker pen – in the Broomloan Stand on Saturday.
The shocking image has prompted Celtic bosses to consider taking action against Mr Laing.
A spokesman for the club said: "If identified as a season-ticket holder, this individual will be treated in the strongest terms and banned for life."
Police in Glasgow have launched an investigation after a complaint about the incident.
