Valencia moved up to fifth in the La Liga standings and closed the gap on fourth-placed Villarreal after a comfortable 4-1 win over Getafe at the Mestalla.
The home side went ahead after 20 minutes when Juan Mata latched onto David Silva's sublime pass, brought the ball down neatly and beat Jacobo Sanz with a cool finish.
The second goal arrived five minutes later as David Villa clinically converted from the spot after Silva had been tripped by Lucas Licht inside the area.
Javier Casquero pulled one back with a penalty in the 49th minute after David Albelda was whistled for tangling with Ikechukwu Uche.
Raúl Albiol restored Valencia's two-goal lead on 56 minutes as he crashed a stunning long-range effort that came off the inside of the post.
Four minutes later, Getafe were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Jacobo was sent off following a second yellow card for bringing down Villa inside the area. The striker himself stepped up to beat substitute goalkeeper Oscar Ustari from the resulting spot-kick.
