Mali striker Frédéric Kanouté has signed new deal that will keep him at Sevilla until 2012.
The 31-year-old is the club's top scorer with 15 league goals this season and there were rumours that he would be tempted by a move to AC Milan in the summer.
However, Kanouté insists his main aim was always to stay with Sevilla.
"I'm very happy because both I and the club wanted this to happen," he told a press conference.
"Now I am a little closer to being able to retire here. I don't know what will happen in 2012 and if I will be able to continue playing, but for now I will be in Sevilla.
"Sevilla were my number one option. I've achieved many things with the team and have had a lot of joy."
During his time with Sevilla, Kanouté has won the UEFA Cup twice, and also picked up winners medals in the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Supercopa and European Supercup.
