On-loan Valencia midfielder Éver Banega has admitted that he wants to stay at Atlético Madrid though he would like to have more chances to play.

The Argentine has been on a season long loan in the Spanish capital and Atlético have an option to purchase the youngster for €11 million in the summer.

However, it is not known if the club will wish to sign Banega on a permanent basis as the player has yet to establish himself as a first team player under either Javier Aguirre or Abel Resino.

"I would like to stay," Banega told Atlético's official website. "When I arrived I did so with the desire to do things well and stay here, and that is what I wish.

"But nobody at Atlético Madrid has told me whether the club will exercise the option to sign me or not.

"It would hurt me if Atlético Madrid did not decide to sign me because as I say I want to stay here.

"If it doesn't happen then I will move to another team. This is not the only team to play, but it's one of the best and I'd like to stay."

He added: "Both Aguirre and Abel always gave me chances. Some I have taken advantage of, some not, but both of them always allowed me to practice well and wait for my chance.

"I would like more chances. Certainly I had some, but then I was sent off, and suspended, so I cannot complain. Now I will try to take advantage of the minutes so I get to play more."
