Sir Alex Ferguson will quit as Manchester United boss at the end of next season, according to his son Darren.

The Old Trafford boss, who took over in 1986, said he was going to quit at the end of the 2001/02 season and felt that affected his team as they lost the title that season.

Fergie has said that while his health is fine he is happy to carry on working.

Now Darren Ferguson, manager of League One side Peterborough, has hinted it could be next summer when his 67-year-old dad finally walks away from the game.

He said: "His health is fine and he’s building a new team.

"If they win the Premier League this year then they catch Liverpool in terms of titles won.

"I can see him doing this year and next — and then that might be it for him."
