Cristiano Ronaldo has donated £100,000 to the hospital that helped saved his mother's life from breast cancer.
The Manchester United star made the gift to the 'Portuguese League Against Cancer' in his native Madeira.
Ronaldo's mum Dolores Aveiro, 54, had a lump removed from her breast at the hospital in 2007.
She underwent a sucessful course of radiotherapy and still takes anti-cancer drugs to keep the disease at bay.
After Mrs Aveiro had surgery 18 months ago, she said: "Cristiano phones me every day. He's always telling me this is nothing and how I'm going to live until I'm 90."
Ronaldo, who earns £120,000 a week, is very close to his mother. Last year he bought her a £25,000 A-Class Mercedes as a 53rd birthday present.
"Cristiano is eternally grateful to the doctors and nurses who saved his mum's life," a friend told the Sunday Mirror.
"He wanted to show them how much he appreciated what they did."
