Bent earns England call-up

England boss Fabio Capello has called Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent into the squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine as cover for injured strikers, Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole.

Heskey scored the opening goal in Saturday's 4-0 win over Slovakia but was substituted on 15 minutes after limping off with what the Capello described as 'cramp.' His withdrawal was confirmed on Sunday.

Heskey's replacement, Cole, lasted just 19 minutes before he too had to be replaced due to a thigh strain.

Peter Crouch, who came on as a substitute for Cole, also had to come off in the 74th minute because of a hip injury but should be fit for Wednesday.

Bent won the last of his four caps in November, when he was part of the team that beat Germany 2-1 in Berlin.

With Michael Owen and Kevin Davies ruled out as potential replacements for Cole, the only other possibility was Heskey's Villa team-mate Gabriel Agbonlahor, but he pulled out of England U-21 duty in Norway last week with a hamstring problem.
