Robbie Keane has completed his return to Tottenham for a knockdown £12 million just six months after Liverpool splashed out £20 million for the striker.

The Irishman left for Anfield in the summer but has paid the price for failing to impress Reds boss Rafa Benítez.

Keane travelled to London on the final day of the transfer window on Monday to undergo a medical and agree personal terms.

A statement on Spurs' official website read: "We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the transfer of Robbie Keane back to the club from Liverpool."

Keane himself is hoping quickly win over any White Hart Lane fans still unhappy with his initial departure.

He said: "It was a difficult decision to make to leave Tottenham in the summer.

"It proved not to be the right move for me. I know some Spurs fans will feel I let them down by leaving but I can assure them I shall be giving my all for this club.

"We have terrific fans and I want to repay them for all their support. We've got to get on and fight our way up that league table."
