Formula One legend Michael Schumacher has paid €875 towards the €10 million transfer deal to bring Lukas Podolski back to Köln.
Köln, one of Germany's most popular clubs, is currently selling individual pixels on its website, www.pixel.fc-koeln.de, to finance the transfer of the 23-year-old striker.
Now seven-time F1 champ Schumacher, a big fan of the club, has contributed as well.
Schumi, who retired from Formula One in 2006, bought several pixels of Podolski's picture for nearly €900 and left a message on the website saying: "Well, boy, you followed your heart – that's always good.
"Nothing can replace real team spirit and I know what I'm talking about.
"For me, it was always the team that mattered the most.
"Now you can show all the fans what the club means to you.
"I keep my fingers crossed for you. See you soon."
The club's marketing manager Lars Nierfeld told German tabloid Bild that Schumacher had wanted to help the cause earlier, but his recent motorcycle accident in Spain meant he has only acted now.
Podolski will return to Köln from Bundesliga champions Bayern this summer after three unhappy years in Munich.
