Lionel Messi came off the bench to score twice as nine-man Barcelona rallied for a 2-1 win at Racing Santander.
Barcelona's midfield controlled the match but failed to create chances inside the goal area without Messi.
The hosts could have taken the lead after 12 minutes but Jonathan Pereira was denied by the woodwork when he sneaked a shot inside Víctor Valdés at his near post when the Barça keeper was expecting a pass across goal.
The home side finally broke the deadlock on 55 minutes when Pereira tumbled in the area under a challenge by Rafael Márquez and Nikola Žigić sent Valdés the wrong way with a coolly-taken spot-kick.
Messi then entered for Sergio Busquets in the 60th minute and bagged the equaliser five minutes later with his first touch, slotting in a loose ball at the near post.
The Argentine sensation snatched the winner with ten minutes remaining when he chested a looping ball forward into the right side before volleying a right-footed shot across goal and beyond goalkeeper Toño.
Barcelona finished the match with nine players after Márquez and Gerard Piqué both picked up second yellow cards late in the closing stages.
