Barcelona cruised to a 10th consecutive La Liga win with a 3-1 victory over Sporting Gijón at Camp Nou, taking the Catalans past the 100-goal mark for the season.
The home side quickly signalled their intentions as Thierry Henry saw his header pushed over by Sporting keeper Inaki Lafuente after 12 minutes.
And 12 minutes later, Barça went ahead. Samuel Eto'o grabbed the night's first goal after a lightning break coordinated by Andrés Iniesta was concluded by Henry's low cross that was drilled home from close range by the Cameroonian.
A second goal arrived on 40 minutes as Lionel Messi's clever feet and pass presented an opening that Eto'o gleefully dispatched.
Brazilian full-back Daniel Alves put the Catalans three up after 66 minutes when he crashed a blistering drive into the net from what looked an almost impossible angle.
Substitute Kike Mateo grabbed a consolation for the visitors in the 68th minute when he beat Víctor Valdés with a low drive from the edge of the box.
Barcelona continued to dominate, though, and Eto'o should have completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes remaining, but saw his header kept out by the woodwork.
Atlético Madrid trashed Recreativo Huelva 3-0 as Abel Resino's reign began in style and Los Rojiblancos ended a run of seven matches without a win in all competitions since the start of the year.
On their travels to Nuevo Colombino stadium, it was a case of job done by half-time for Resino's men as they strolled into the break with a three-goal advantage.
Sergio Agüero put the visitors ahead after just three minutes as the Argentine converted Florent Sinama-Pongolle's cross from the right with a firm header from six yards.
It was 2-0 in the 27th minute when Diego Forlán swept the ball home from Agüero's pass to score his 11th league goal this season.
Javier Camuñas almost pulled a goal back less than two minutes later only to see his shot from 12 yards turned round the post by Leo Franco.
Forlán grabbed his second of the match 11 minutes before half-time when the Uruguayan striker again latched onto a pass from Agüero and fired a right-foot shot in from 12 yards.
