Robinho: Why I didn't join Chelsea

Brazilian forward Robinho has revealed the reasons why he didn't join Chelsea this summer.
Over the summer, Chelsea looked to have secured the unsettled Brazilian, especially when the player himself expressed his desire repeatedly.
But Manchester City – whose owner has been named as the wealthiest person in British football – splashed out £32.5 million in the deadline day to bring the diminutive striker to Eastlands.
"It was Chelsea’s fault," said Robinho in an exclusive interview with FourFourTwo magazine. "I thought I was going to Chelsea.
"Real Madrid didn’t want me to go there, but Chelsea didn’t help themselves.
"Everything would have gone ahead but they put that picture of me on the website - in a Chelsea kit before a fee had been agreed - and Madrid were very upset.
"They then said that I could leave, but not to a team who would rival in the Champions League.
"Then Manchester City made me an offer which was good for me and my family. They weren’t a threat to Real Madrid."
Robinho left Real Madrid in controversy after he spoke out in the press begging to be allowed to leave Los Merengues.
However, the 24-year-old has no regrets about his bitter departure and dismisses claims he joined City for the money.
He added: "I’m far happier here than I was in the final months at Madrid. People should realise I want to be here for many years to come.
"If I only wanted money, I would have gone somewhere else. I had offers from Saudi Arabia and Japan, I could have earned more.
"I remember Chelsea – three or four years ago they were considered a small club but now they are a big club. So anything is possible.
"It's not in my mind to leave the club. I want to repay everyone for making me so welcome. Fans have not seen the best of me yet."
