Real Madrid exploit Liverpool clash with £785 tickets

Real Madrid is charging as much as £785 for a seat at a Champions League last-16 clash against Liverpool on February 25.

The record-breaking VIP ticket comes with a complimentary team scarf and food and drink from one of the club’s restaurants, but it is still double the price of the same ticket for a match against Juventus last November.

Real spokesman Javier Cano says the ticket is aimed at corporate guests who cannot afford a VIP box for the season because of the current economic climate. "We expect a lot of interest for this match," he insisted.

The tie is the first competitive meeting between both clubs since 1981, when the Reds beat their Spanish opponents in Paris to win the European Cup final.

The fact that Liverpool are managed by former Merengues youth-team coach Rafa Benítez and have Spanish players such as Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso has heightened the interest in Madrid. And it is clear Real are cashing in.
