Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has responded to Rafa Benítez's shocking outburst by labeling the Liverpool counterpart ‘disturbed’ and ‘ridiculous’.
Benítez launched a furious rant at Ferguson on Friday over his conduct with referees and his complaints about the fixture list.
Speaking after his side's 3-0 home win over title rivals Chelsea, Ferguson hit back at the Spaniard.
"I think you have to cut through the venom of it," Ferguson told Sky Sports.
"Hopefully he will reflect and understand what he said was ridiculous.
"I think he was an angry man and I think he was disturbed for some reason.
"But I don't want to say anything else because all I want to do is keep my focus on my team."
Liverpool's draw at Stoke means United could find themselves top the table before the Reds play their next match in the Merseyside derby against Everton next Monday.
